I do not know how to do my hair!!!?

I am an African American female and I do not know how to do my hair. All my life my parents has sent me to salons and not that I am 23, I have recently tried doing it on my own but it has never worked. I bought flat irons, curlers, hot combs....you name it, I got it!! However everytime I attempt to curl, flat iron, roll it up, straighten it, or style it; it NEVER comes out right. My friends say its so easy but I find it very difficult. I have been trying for years now and I just want to give up. I dont have the money to go to the salon all the time. I need a simple solution. Any suggestions????

you just have to practice. normally girls practice at a younger age so they know how to do their own hair by the time they are your age. but since you have never done your own hair, you have to start now. ask your friend to help you. just make sure you use heat protectants when you use flat irons and curling irons.

k it is not that hard

but since you are having trouble

when you go to a salon ask them to show you

and tell you some tricks

and ask them what you are doing wrong

If you want to straighten your hair, you need a really good straightener. :) You're best to buy an expensiveish, ceramic one from a salon IMO. The cheaper ones take forever to heat up, and your hair won't stay straight for very long. Make sure you straighten small sections at a time. Every once in a while, comb through your hair to reveal any wavy spots you may have missed. When you're done, use a smoothing cream or hairspray.

If you want to keep your hair curly, condition your hair every day with a conditioner for curly hair (ex. herbal essences has one, I think it's called Twirls %26amp; Curls?). Blow dry your hair, and when it's still damp, run some gel or smoothing cream through your hair to separate the curls.

Sorry that's all I can think of. I have almost the same problem (really long wavy/curly/frizzy hair), it's a pain because it takes so much time to do your hair every day. x_x

I am in the same situation right now. One thing you could do is go natural. Taking care of natural hair is just a bit easier. One way to transition is to get individual or microbraids which last for a couple of months and are extremely easy to care for. It usually costs around $100 to get them done so that's about $50 a month depending on how long you can make them last. There are hair care forums like lhcf.com with a TON of tips. These girls have beautiful hair that they take care of on their own. Also on fotki.com there is someone named sistaslick...she's awesome. Good luck!
