How to properly straighten my hair?

I know this question has been asked before but now I need my own answers.

I have really thick hair and I own a ceramic straightener.

This is how I straighten my hair, I wash it, blow dry , comb it and then just start straightening.

Should I be putting an gel or spray in between or after?

And when I straighten my hair, the ends do not straighten properly, they are still a bit frizzy. And I start from the scalp like the directions say.

Please help, what should I be doing?!

First What I do is I take a shower the night before I straighten it so that it is completely dry. Because if I blow dry it it just makes it puffy and frizzy and extremely dry. Then you seperate your hair in to sections. I would also recommend using some kind of a spray to reduce the damage from the heat. Then when you got it all straightened use Garnier Fructis sleek and shine anti-frizz serum. It makes it really smooth and smells really good too.

No you should NEVER use a straightener on wet hair. Using it on wet hair causes your hair to steam heat up and then damages the strand. Use a straightening serum before your blow dry your hair, that Will help with the frizzy ends.

i think u should leave the job to the salon...its tough doing it by yourself, especially those frizzy ends! just make sure after ur appointment at the salon, use ur trusted (deep moisturizing) conditioner and comb ur hair as much as possible.

I know how you feel. My hair is also thick and pretty curly. Anyways, my advice is to try some Chi hair serum ( I don't really remember what it is called but it is specifically for straightening hair). It works great on my hair!

ummm.. your fine but before straightening make sure you put a seal in your hair.. its a little oil bottle and they are great.. you dont need an expensive one either. they can also come in sprays...

the point is that they kinda cover your hair and cause less damage!! good luck!

Take hair into sections and do it using a comb whilst straightening.

You can buy hair protector sprays, also after straightening use a hair serum if your hair is thick this should smooth any frizz

Well...I have thick hair too..for your ends, you should get them trimmed...my hair does that too and plus getting your ends trimmed will let your hair grow out more. When I straighten my hair I put hair grease in it. And if worse comes to worse, you could get a new straightener. Try going to this website:

well if your ends are frizzy that probably means you should get a trim. it will make your hair healthier and grow faster.

I think you should rebond your hair. The straightening effects will last at least 6 months, depending on how you take care of your hair. I had friends whose hair remained straight even after 2 years of rebonding!

I had hair dresser used ceramic straighter on me. From what I observed, do not blow your hair totally dry. Leave a bit of moisture before straightening. If you do a good job, there is no need for any gel. It's natural that the ends do not straighten properly because they are the furthest away from the scalp and thus, are the most easily damaged. Apply conditioner to the ends. Take good care of them.

I had the same problem my hair is real frizzy and curly and I love to wear it straight. What I do is after I wash it I use a round brush and start to blow dry it, then get some straightening cream DEP makes the best that I've found( in a gray bottle w/ white and black letters) then rub that in from the scalp down to the ends then use your straightener then finsh it off with a light finishing spray nothing to heavy that it will weigh your hair down though

well i dont know how much i can help but i had the same problem and it has been resolved. i have tried many starighteners but my hair seems to only work with the conair flat ceramic iron. its yellow on the iron and the plastic is black. its 40 dollars but trust me, it will do miracles. but after a while, i start to get split ends. so wat i did was i went to get my hair trimmed, came home and took a shower. then when it was damp, i used pantene pro v restorative strenghtening hair lotion and combed it through my hair. after about a week i noticed a difference so i just use the lotion in my hair every time i get out of the shower and i straighten my hair when dry.

ps: i put my hair up in a ponytail and take little pieces out at a time and straighten each part until the ponytail comes out. it usually take me about 30 minutes. good luck and sry for such a long answer : )

Well using a ceramic straightener helps but its temporary, you cant use the ceramic iron too often since your hair would get damaged.

And using chemicals to relax it would straighten hair but can damage hair if poorly applied.

I actually dont know what to do. I would braid it into cornrows as often as possible and only straighten it on special occasions?

I have thick hair it almost reaches my butt. Here is the routine I follow when straightening my hair. I wash it, comb it out and let it air dry for a day. Then I heat up my straightener I use short bursts of spray of Isoplus oil sheen and a dab or two of bonner bros hair grease that has a growing ingredient it works well on my hair. Unless it gets sweated it out it can last anywhere from a week to three weeks.
