How to take care of hair for a bi-racial child?

My daughter is bi-racial im white and her father is black. She is 16 and has the most dry brital hair ever. It is almost impossible to get a comb or anything through it. We live in a town where there isnt anyone that has experience with this type of hair. Very hick place. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Along with a tip about get her hair straight. Its her one big wish.

If you want to go natural, you can try using a good mousse or gel to define her curls. It sounds like she has curls, that you are probably combing out, which leaves the hair looking dry brittle and kinky. I am bi racial, so I know exactly what you are talking about. My sister uses Biolage gel to get beautiful tight curls, and I use Herbal essesnce mouse to get looser curls. If she wishes to straighten her hair permanently, she needs to understand that her beautiful curls will disappear and that she would have to be committed to her hair on a daily basis. She would need to relax it professionally after recieving a good moisturizing and strengthening treatment (hair mayonaise is good). Then she would have to set it every time she washes it so it doesnt get frizzy. No longer will she be able to just wash and go. I suggest she go natural for now because maintainance and care sounds difficult in your town (when i studied in mexico they burnt my hair off trying to relax it -they had no clue about curly hair...i had to cut it all off and go natural after that for a long time). Don't forget that a ncie layered cut is also good for curly hair because of the volume. Good luck !!

well it depends. some mixed hair is more white and some is more black. sometimes the hair is more white but someone wants to MAKE it black or the other way around. it sounds like the hair is more black because black hair gets extremely dry and brittle when it is not properly moisterized. you MUST start using black products. ask black people how they care for their hair and simply copy that. now since your child's hair is not totally black you will not need to use AS MUCH product, but you have to use it otherwise the hair will suffer.

By all means, spend the time, money, and attention to this 16 year old. She needs it, she needs to know how to deal with her hair. Take her to the nearest city, to a beauty salon and have it professionally done, once in a lifetime mother/daughter outing. Learn what they do, how they do it, and she will be very happy and so will you.
