Please help! detangling absolutely nappier than nappy hair!?

I have been wearing my hair natural (non permed) for 6 years now. I always wear it in twists and i love them. however, everytime i have to get them re-done, its the same thing! i comb and i comb and i comb but i can't do it. i have to get someone else to actually sit there and scrape combs thru my head! i am also very tender headed which doesn't help the situation at all. is there ANY shampoo out there that works best for detangling my naps??

My hair is really, really kinky and thick. I've been natural for over 6 years. I usually wear twists or an afro mostly. I've been using this particular method for the last year and it saved my life. The key to detangling is using a product with "slip".

Try not to over shampoo your hair. This strips your hair of natural oils and can lead to dry scalp and "hard hair". Try doing the "no poo" routine which is conditioner only and only shampoo your hair once every 1 to 2 weeks with a clarifying conditioner (like Pantene Clarifying Shampoo) if you've been using a lot of product on your hair or simply use Witch Hazel mixed with your favorite conditioner and focus on your scalp before rinsing. Witch hazel gently cleans scalp but doesn't strip the hair. You can also use witch hazel to clean your scalp while you have the twists in if you don't want to wash them.

To detangle: Try Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Replenishing Paks to help with the detangling. Dampen your hair, or spray it with water before you undo the twists, then gently rub the conditioner in from root to ends. Go section by section. If your hair is really thick and long use 2 paks. They only cost about $1.25 - $1.30. Then go section by section and use your fingers to seperate. When the twists are seperated, use either a wide tooth comb or your fingers to detangle. Using your fingers is the best option for tender headed folks. After you detangle a section, put it in a quick braid or clip it up and move on to the next section until you're complete. Then you can follow with one of the shampoo regimin's and your favorite deep conditioner. I would suggest using another replenishing pak with a plastic cap.

By using these methods your hair should become easier to manage, softer and easier to detangle.

the secret is not in the shampoo it's in the conditioner .get a good conditioner and leave it in your hair for about 15 minutes and rise it out good with warm water it should make your hair more manageable

I don't think any shampoo will do it alone. You can use your favorite shampoo and conditioner but after that is where you might need some detangling products. Matrix makes a spray glossing cream that helps tons with tangles. I sell it to my customers just for the purpose of detangling the hair. Anything that is a glossing product should help. Just remember it might make your hair a little oily so keep it away from your scalp. And please remember to use a large tooth comb plastic comb first and then move on to something where the teeth are closer, just to avoid the pain and breakage of the hair strand. Good luck!

I agree with using a conditioner and a shampoo comb. The teeth are spaced wider apart to make it easier to detangle.

I also wear my hair in twists. Conditioner is a good suggestion and so is the wide tooth comb. I personally use unbraid spray. The key is to keep your hair moist while taking it down, so if you use conditioner don't rinse it out until your done. Use a spray bottle to keep it moist. The other thing is you need to comb it out in small sections and braid it until your ready to wash it. This way it doesn't re tangle.

Let me get this straight. You are tender headed and you get twisties? Why? Your asking for it. Then when you try to comb out your hair do you use a wide tooth comb? Do you use a de-tangle spray? Are you trying to comb out too much hair at one time? Shampoo does not help de-tangle your hair. It is either conditioner or a detangle spray.

i know exactly what you're going through!! when you wash your hair, only use shampoo on the roots (so it will grow) and work it about half way down, then use a deep conditioner, which will make it softer and easier to comb through

use A LOT of conditioner after washing your hair. massage it in ang GENTLY try to comb thru your hair with your fingers for a couple minutes then rinse. this should make your hair softer and easier to manage.
