I've got naturally frizzy/curly/thick hair that I've straightened via hot comb and a flat iron. I like for my hair to be curled under, so I'm using sponge rollers with those little white papers rolled around them so that they don't soak up all the vital oils my strands need.
My sister said I should never use them because they break your hair. Is that true?

It's ok to use sponge rollers as long as you are using the papers around the rollers. Another thing you can do is fold a piece of paper in half, starting at the ends of your hair,place your hair in between the paper and roll your hair, this will prevent breakage, I do this a lot and my hair don't break, You must use the papers.

ur ends should be fine as long as you make sure they r wrapped smoothly- no fishtail ends

i have really thin and fragile hair and sponge rollers don't break my hair, so if you take them out right, they will probably be fine
