Hair is loosing color, shine and thinning out?

I am a 18 f that has never colored her hair. I used to have jet black hair, but now it seems like it is almost a dark brown red color. I have been using the same shampoo for a very long time and I get my hair trimmed 2 to 3 times a year. It also seems like I am loosing a lot more hair in the shower and while I am combing it. How can I tackle both problems?

Eat more protein, take a multivitamin. Hair grows from the inside out.

Get a shower filter, filter your drinking water, switch shampoos to one that doesn't contain sodium lauryl sulfate, over time this chemical is bad news, Research it, just type in Hazards of sodium lauryl sulfate, and read all about it. A shower/water filter will make a big difference, in your hair, skin.

For one thing, using the same shampoo permits a build-up and that can affect the integrity of the shampoo, it doesn't work quite as well. Changing shampoos or using some type of build-up remover is more preferable. Also, my hair was quite dark when I was younger but I realized that the older I got and the more sunlight I was exposed to caused my hair to lighten over time. Exposure to swimming pool chlorine and hair styling products containing alot of alcohol can also effect the deepness of your hair color. My hair is now a medium brown (it was dark brown, almost brownish/black when I was young). I just finally stopped worrying about it but good luck.

You should go to a local beauty salon and ask a stylist

about your hair problems. Sounds to me like the shampoo is NO GOOD for your hair there may be an ingredient in it that is damaging your hair. Stress and poor health illness causes

hair loss and thinning. Take care of yourself my friend. Try a milder shampoo and conditioner. I like Fructis shampoo.

hair changes over time.. that is an invitalbe

Some kids start out light blonde and by your age are mid-range brown... it just is the way it is.

I am glad you haven't colored your hair.. if you want your hair to be healthy for your life-time, it is better to not ever use chemical treatments (color, perms, straighteners, etc...)

At 18 I would be concerned about what you are eating and how it effects your hair.. especially if you are experiencing hair loss

Most teens have awful eating habits (person experience as myslef %26amp; in observation of my son)... try to get well-balanced meals. Remove carbonated beverages, and sugar substitues, minimize sugar intake, get a high-performance vitamin with ginseng, eat foods that haven't had other processing done to them (for example eat chicken that you cook instead of chicken that has somehow been pre-prepaired), eat more fruits and veggies either raw or minimally cooked.

Check your shampoo, what are you using? Use the smallest amount of high-quality shampoo that you can to get the dirty out of your hair. Come to understand that oil in hair is a natural way to moisturize your hair.. consider using shampoo less frequently %26amp; rinsing only with water as a substitute to washing as often as possible. Also, THROW AWAY THE HAIR DRYER and don't use any styling aides or "stuff" (no hot irons %26amp; no hair gel)

I have learned the art of hair care... I keep mine LONG - waist-length... I have had it longer, but I don't like sitting on my hair.

My son (now that he has graduated high school %26amp; doesn't have to keep his hair above the lenght of the collar) is growing his hair out %26amp; it is passed his shoulders. He rinses it every day %26amp; uses shampoo every 3rd day. He was washing it with shampoo everyday %26amp; was starting to have hair breakage... He was hesitant to not use shampoo everyday because his hair %26amp; skin is really oily (mine was also when I was his age)... now, he is acclimated to rinsing his hair every morning.. he no longer blows his hair dry, he brushes his hair (with a natural bristle, paddle brush that I gave him) every night to smooth the oil into the hair.... he is now at peace with his hair. He still has some dietary issues as he is in college while working full-time... but he is trying to make it as best he can for the health of his hair %26amp; himself.
